My New Bicycle Commute

The map above shows in blue what Google suggests. The red is what I actually rode home because I left the directions in the office. It took nearly an hour an forty four minutes but I got the exercise I sorely needed.
I finally got the chance to ride my bike to work for the first time last week and hope to do so again. Ever since I started sub-contracting for Burger King, I’ve been shown how a real company should be treating their employees who choose to commute. My previous employers berated (in a joking manner) how crazy I was for even thinking of cycling. My parents did the same but more out of worry of an accident. These guys get it. They provide a locker room, showers, towels, blow dryers, body wash, shampoo, bike racks and anything else a cyclist could ever want. It’s heaven and I wish I could never leave. At the very least I will lobby extra hard for my next employer to be so friendly to cyclists. I thought I was jaded when it came to big corporations. I am thankful for having worked with a group of nice people.
As for the ride, it was brutal as I have not ridden in a very long time. Since my Android’s built in Google Maps and Navigation do not support bicycle directions, yet, so I printed them out a head of time and carried them with me while riding. I want to bring up something that Transit Miami says all the time. Coral Way is incredibly crazy to ride. The cars go way faster than they should on that street and there is no safe way to ride on the street. I resort to riding the short distance on the sidewalk and get off of Coral Way as soon as possible. DOT really needs to do something about it, but I seriously doubt they will do it in any meaningful way. I also believe that Flagler and 8th ST could use a bit of improvement. They really feel like death traps.
Do you commute to work by bike? How does your employer treat you?

I will eat a burger from Burger King in their honor. It's awesome they promote a healthier and greener method of transportation. What most companies don't realize is that while most of their employees may arrive to work in a foul mood because of the traffic they were enduring, you will great right after a nice shower following an excellent workout. That feeling, ready to take on the day, is the motivation most employers should strive for

The cynic in my says it's because if they didn't promote healthy living, no one would be fit enough to work because of the products they sell. But that's just me.
